Didn't a commercial overpass gate in New York City roll back when hit by an object? First, disable the anti-jamming feature.
Frequent loading and unloading continues into late summer at warehouses, truck terminals, and retail loading docks in the New York metropolitan area. When the overhead gate is closed, the bottom of the gate is usually equipped with one or more protective devices, the specific configuration depends on the gate type and site conditions. If the bottom of the gate continues to move down (sometimes in reverse) after hitting an obstacle, or if the bottom edge, cables or fasteners are damaged, this cannot be considered a “malfunction.” These phenomena are related to gate movement, clamping and vehicle traffic. The most important first action is to stop automatic operation and control the gate opening, not repeated testing.
First, make sure what you have is in a safe place.
Do not allow anyone to stand under the door, but note whether the anomaly occurs during self-closing, remote control operation, or manual control, whether the door always malfunctions at the same height, whether there are dents, tears, loose or exposed cables in the bottom edge strip, and whether there is any standing water, packaging film, tray pieces, or other debris on the floor nearby that could alter the contact surface. Remove only safely accessible debris from outside doorways onto the floor. Do not touch the hanging door or bottom edge parts. If site conditions allow, take photos of the entire door and floor from a safe distance away from the side of the doorway. Close-up photos of protective parts are unnecessary and should not be taken.
Why can't we just judge it on the basis of "it's closed again"?
One successful reversal operation alone does not indicate that the protection system has returned to normal. Doors, control systems, subcomponents and other protective devices may interfere with each other, and repeated button pressing may mislead workers into thinking the door is available, increasing the risk of entrapment or collision. Leaving the door partially open, securing the door with a forklift, or temporarily bypassing the protective circuits all make it difficult to determine the condition of the doorway. If the door is also used in an unloading area, ensure that vehicles, forklifts and pedestrians are using approved alternative routes and are not blocking fire escapes or escape routes before stopping unloading operations.
How to prepare a repair request after your device breaks down
- Follow building, warehouse or store procedures to mark entrances and exits as closed, control accessible areas for people and vehicles, and record time of occurrence on work orders.
- Describe the purpose and location of the door, the specific way it operates when closed, whether the door has come into contact with any other objects, whether it can be fully closed, and whether the door will affect receipt of goods, security, or business operations.
- Please provide a photo or short video of the entire door from a safe location, and note any damage to the bottom edge of the door, water pooling, debris on the floor, or signs of a recent collision. If you can't determine the cause, don't guess.
- Check in advance for door numbers, building management access points, on-site concierge, work orders, and Certificate of Insurance (COI) requirements. Repair plans, materials and costs should be based on an on-site inspection.
Under what circumstances should on-site inspections be prioritized?
If the protection system malfunctions and is accompanied by symptoms such as the door tilting, the rail shaking, the wire rope loosening, the bottom edge separating, an error occurring in the control panel, or the door not closing properly, it is not advisable to continue waiting in the queue. If a vehicle has recently approached the doorway or there are signs of a collision, first List the areas where the vehicle has impacted the roller shutter door. Please review. If a problem occurs with the photoelectric sensor under strong sunlight in the summer, the phenomenon Safety observation record of garage door photoelectric sensor It must be recorded separately. It is not necessary to directly determine the cause of malfunction of various protective devices; it is more helpful to keep clear field records.
How to explain a situation more effectively when contacting someone?
Please specify the type of door, whether there is a loading/unloading port, whether a malfunction occurred during opening or closing, whether the door currently closes securely, whether there is visible damage to the bottom edge, and any site access regulations. Do not directly test the anti-pinch function of the door to obtain a receipt. Providing information such as the number of times the door is opened and closed, complete photos, time elapsed, and out-of-use status will help us identify actual hazards during on-site inspections.
If the reverse protection device does not work, first stop the automatic operation of the door.
Before contacting us, please have ready the location of the entrance, a full photo of the anomaly, the time it was first noticed, whether the door is closed, and any site access requirements.
